In an earlier life, I completed an undergraduate minor in art illustration with a concentration on the human figure in graphite and charcoal. Between long absences, I repeatedly found my way back to art, drawing subjects from within my profession as a wildlife biologist and college professor. Recently, I began exploring watercolors by taking classes and private lessons with local artists. A group trip through Tuscany with fellow artists provided me with inspiring images of open landscapes, ancient architecture, and Gothic elements. I was drawn to the details of the natural materials (stone, wood, iron), their juxtaposition, and the impact of light and shadow across their surfaces. For more, click here to visit the artist’s shop!
